<itunes:summary>About 3 in 4 people have one or more bouts of back pain. Most bouts soon ease and are not due to serious back problems. In most cases the usual advice is to keep active, and do normal activities as much as possible. Painkillers are helpful until the pain eases. Chronic (persistent) pain develops in some cases, and further treatment may then be needed</itunes:summary>

Poison ivy is a plant that can grow anywhere, and all it takes is a little touch or brush against it. Maybe it is in the backyard next to that tree or bush that needs to be trimmed. Or, it could be in the park next to that bench that was easily accessible to sit on, while waiting for someone. Perhaps the poison ivy is in the woods near that deer stand.

When coming in contact with poison ivy, the skin will itch badly and have lots of red blisters that makes a person want to scoot around and scratch like crazy. And, the more the area is scratched the more it spreads to the new area of the body.

If the rash does not clear up on its own or the blisters are appearing in the genitals or face, a doctor will be able to treat it more effectively.

-
When it rains outside, the air becomes damp and moist. Depending on the time of season, the temperatures will either be cold or hot, sometimes in between. Once the rain is over, the air can seem to be muggy and quite humid in certain areas. This dampness and humidity is what affects many people. For individuals who suffer with allergies, a rainy day can make them feel very tired and fatigued, weak, nauseated, start to sneeze, cough and wheeze. Some of these symptoms can worsen and should be monitored, because it can easily turn into an asthma attack or something else. An antihistamine is usually what will be needed, but for someone who has asthma or other allergies, a doctor needs to be the one to approve of medication before taking it. Having regular physical checkups and learning what triggers a reaction to the allergies in the first place is beneficial to the person who is experiencing the symptoms.

A candle is a very nice commodity to have and use. The gently aromas that seems to stimulate moods helps to bring a soothing, calm and warm feel to a home or office. Being able to choose from the many types, sizes, shapes, colors and scents will allow people to have their own preference. However, one thing is usually not thought of when it comes to purchasing a candle and that is the effect it can have on allergies.

When using a candle, the wax or gel begins to melt and produces a smell, whether it is scented or not. This smell is one of many things that can aggravate anyone who is sensitive to smoke or a fragrance. The smell will envelope the atmosphere and depending on the person, can very easily trigger an onset of an attack of allergies that can turn into an asthma attack or worse.

-
Polyester is a common fabric that is used when making many products. There are an innumerable amount of items that are used by consumers on a regular basis that happens to be made with polyester. People who cannot tolerate the feel of polyester will often develop or break out in a rash in the spot the fabric is or has been touching. There can be quite a bit of red skin that is itching. The skin can also begin to swell. The bedcovers or sheets many sleep on can also cause them to itch or feel irritated throughout the nighttime. They will awaken to skin that may feel itchy, burning or chaff. The thing to do is to avoid having contact with anything that is made of polyester. Change the bedding made of another fabric that will hopefully do better.

In this day and time, the things of the environment seem to do more harm than good. The air on the outside is becoming dirtier and unhealthier all the time. Things like the smoke from cigarettes, ozone, smog, the exhaust from an automobile and other pollutants in the air can have a big impact on people who have allergies or asthma. Asthma can be triggered from allergies, and allergies can be triggered from the environment people breathe every single day.

The effects of the unclean environment on those who are sensitive to the air due to their allergies can experience headaches, throat that burns and begins to feel tight, not being able to breathe good and burning eyes. Some, if not all of these symptoms can intensify with more exposure, so it is very important to get out of the unclean environment and into fresh, clean air.

There are medications that can help with allergies and asthma. See a physician for the help that is need and maybe run some tests to see exactly what can be done. There is always hope.

-
Almost from the beginning of time people have been adorning their bodies with some sort of art. Today’s world is no different. Until fairly recently, it only seemed to be a certain type of person that would go to extremes, such as full body tattoos, or body piercing. A not so new trend is coming back to apply art to the tongue; art work in the form of having intentional lacerations to the tongue. Young people, especially, endure pain to enhance their individuality. Some go to surgeons to have lacerations of the tongue performed in an artistic way. It is not at all uncommon to meet people that have some form of art on their tongues. Sometimes a person feels that going to a surgeon to have lacerations of the tongue is a bit too expensive, so they learn how to do it themselves, or ask a friend to instill the lacerations to the tongue. Splitting of the tongue is another work of art sometimes done by the individual without medical intervention. The pain is not reported as intense as one might think; lacerations of the tongue can be made fairly easily once the individual works up the nerve to do it. There is more than one way to make lacerations of the tongue; a razor blade is often the instrument of choice, but fishing line can also be used to make lacerations of the tongue. Tongue art can be done by making careful cuts; common designs are diamond shapes, stars, and crosses. Whether the tongue is pierced and fishing line is fed through the tongue and pulled tight, or if a scalpel or razor blade us used, the object of making art on the tongue is to make precise lacerations of the tongue. You might think intentional lacerations of the tongue would be done only by people that are members of some kind of subculture, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Tongue art is so popular now among some people, that the trend of getting lacerations of the tongue is reaching the main stream. You might be surprised to find tongue art among a few of the very people you hold in high esteem. The desire to have tongue art isn’t just to show off the finished masterpiece, but it’s the whole experience. The pain involved in receiving intentional lacerations of the tongue is part of the allure. It seems that men and women from many walks of life want to push the limits of what they think they can endure, just to be different. Whether the art work is done by the individual or by a professional, lacerations of the tongue normally heal very quickly; however, special care should be taken to prevent infection. Eating might be a little painful until healing takes place. Keeping the mouth clean by rinsing it fairly often may be necessary to clear the mouth and tongue of food particles. Depending on the depth of the cuts, lacerations of the tongue will heal in about a week’s time.

Sunlight has the potential to help to heal the body, because of the essential vitamins, such as D and K in provides. For a newborn baby that may be a bit jaundice, sitting in direct sunlight for 15 minutes or so several times a day can help eliminate that. Although, the sunlight has the ability and power to help promote healing, it also has the power to have a negative effect on a person who is sensitive to the direct sunlight.

Although, this may seem strange it is true. The sunlight can cause some individuals to have manifest symptoms where they feel they are going to vomit, cannot breathe too well, blisters, wheezing, the areas exposed can have a rash that may burn and much worse.

Now, there are questions that have no answers to them, but some of the known explanations for allergic reactions to the sunlight can be specific medicines, creams or perfumes, a sickness or disease and an immunity that is not strong for whatever the reason. Doctors can be the best ones to help and determine the source.

-
The first image that pops up when you mention first aid to people is a bandage, but registry first aid is a little different. This type of ‘medical’ intervention focuses on your computer and not on your body – though if you spend a lot of time on a computer, they might be equally important to you. In order to ensure that your computer is in top functioning form, you need to learn these basics of registry first aid. How to Tell When Your Registry is Sick Learning when you use registry first aid is just as important as how to implement these first aid techniques. If your computer needs intervention, it might start running more slowly than usual. You might try to open up a program and it takes a lot longer to load or to run the tasks that you run frequently. If you notice that some programs don’t open at all, you might also have registry troubles. When you’ve moved files from one place to another, you might have damage your registry as well. And when you’ve had viruses in the past or you suspect that you may have been a victim of a phishing scheme, you may need registry first aid. Why Your Registry has Troubles When your computer is put together, think of it like a web of chips that are all connected together. If these connections are ‘clean,’ the computer can run quickly. But if anything happens to these connection points, you will notice your computer beginning to slow down. The registry can be damaged by your own actions, but is more likely to be damaged by software programs that are malicious in nature – viruses, for example. How to Cure Your Computer Thankfully, most computer systems now come with self-diagnosing software to check for registry problems. Simple go to your operating system company’s website to see what kinds of programs they have there and then run these programs to check for registry errors. You can also purchase separate registry first aid software bundles that you can install on your computer to run regular sweeps of your system. But basic prevention is generally the best advice when it comes to your registry’s health. Don’t delete or move any programs that are essential to your computer; use up to date anti-virus software; delete emails that you don’t recognize; and make sure to run your computers defragmentation program from time to time. Registry first aid may not involve bandaids, but a little knowledge can go a long way in preventing unnecessary frustration.

We all know the importance of having a first aid kit in our home and car. Many don’t realize the importance of there being first aid kits when we are not at home. Most places that we go to are going to be public places, which are required by law to have first aid kits for the public in case of an emergency. One place where it’s very important to have first aid kits and first aid supplies is the schools where our children are spending 1/3 of each day. School first aid supplies are probably used every day for one thing or another.

Children are constantly getting bumps and bruises, especially when they are little. Many times, just having a band-aid put on a small scrape will have them feeling better in no time. In most cases, each classroom will have school first aid supplies in a first aid kit. Some smaller schools may just have a couple first aid kits located in a few convenient locations. However, in larger schools, you will be more inclined to see them in each classroom. If an injury happens in the classroom, emergency treatment can happen quicker this way than if the teacher has to go running down the halls looking for the first aid kit with the school first aid supplies they need.

Schools are constantly doing mock drills for fires, tornados and other disasters so they will be prepared in the case of a natural disaster. Although these are major disasters and emergencies, it’s equally important that the schools and their staff be prepared for minor emergencies to prevent them from becoming major emergencies. The best way they can do this is with proper training and having the best school first aid supplies they need.

A first aid kit with good school first aid supplies will have different sizes of gauze pads, rolls of gauze, different sizes of band-aids, adhesive tape, Phisoderm (to clean wounds), latex gloves, burn cream, antibiotic cream, antiseptic wipes, blood clot spray or powder, cleaning wipes, rubbing alcohol and peroxide.

In addition to the school first aid supplies, the school staff should have some sort of EMT training or be certified in CPR. Many times the extra minutes that are spent waiting for an ambulance can mean the difference between a minor or a major occurrence or possibly life and death. School first aid supplies are also more than just a basic first aid kit. The staff has to have first aid storage containers, extra blankets, pillows, cots and duffel bags for carrying emergency supplies in the case of an emergency.

-
Anytime there is an allergy, there is usually some type of congestion that will sooner or later appear. There are many different kinds of allergies, like cotton, mountain cedar, pine and ragweed. With these pollens there will most likely be some congestion that can easily result in something more than the sniffles. The congestion does not just settle but moves to different areas, like the ears. There are tubes that are in the ears, which is how the congestion gets there in the first place, which is what causes the ear to hurt and throb. If the congestion stays in the ear, an infection will develop. The ear can all of a sudden begin to hurt and the body will heat up because of the infection from the allergy. Taking a good multi-vitamin daily with extra Vitamin C will help to alleviate the congestion.

-
Allergies can manifest when individuals come in contact with or eat something that will cause their immunity to comply in a negative manner with a variety of signs. If the allergy is mold, cotton, pine, cedar, dust or even food, taking Vitamin C can help. Whatever the allergy is, this vitamin is good for those annoying allergies. When taking Vitamin C, it works similar to an antihistamine by helping to minimize the allergies. You can also increase the intake of Vitamin C for the allergies that are not so mild. Taking it will help to give the immunity some boosting. The benefits to taking this vitamin are very rewarding to the immunity and overall physical body. Eating the foods that contain Vitamin C will definitely add the extra benefits. An orange is filled with this vitamin and very good for the immunity. When taking Vitamin C, the need to use the bathroom will increase, because the body does not store it.

The travel first aid kit is designed to be stored in compact spaces while still supplying important supplies for potential minor emergencies. In addition, the kit can hold important items for particular needs such as baby wipes for the infant or medications for allergies. The amount and kinds of items in the kits are also influenced by the length and purpose of the trip.

In other words, if you’re traveling to a big city the first aid kit stowed in the trunk may contain different items than if you were traveling to go camping in the woods. Of course, there will be some of the same supplies. All first aid kits have band-aids and a tube of ointment. But you may need band-aids designed for blistered toes developing from lots of city walking, or you need bee sting treatment if going camping.

The travel first aid kit can be as personalized as you want it to be. But there are some items all travel kits should contain. One item is a red flag for indicating a problem. Another first aid supply important for traveling is a small amount of drinking water. A travel first aid kit often seconds as an emergency kit too.

A travel first aid kit can also include items meant to keep you safe and healthy. Besides the typical gauze and tweezers, it can also contain antibacterial hand wipes, suntan lotion and insect repellent. These items are intended to prevent problems instead of dealing with them after the fact.

Many people include medications in their travel first aid kit. You can insure a quantity of prescribed medicine is on hand at all times by including them in a first aid kit. But you can also include medications frequently used while traveling.

• Nausea medicine
• Anti-anxiety medicine
• High altitude medicine
• Sleeping medicine

Some considerations to keep in mind when deciding which travel first aid kit to purchase include the following.

• Insure the kit is large enough for the traveling group
• Keep all supplies in an airtight container
• Pick kit closest to your needs and then supplement with additional supplies
• Identify all special needs

A travel first aid kit is often overlooked when travelers are packing. Yet the first aid kit can make your trip much nicer when you’re able to easily deal with sudden emergencies on the road or in the air. Actually, a travel kit is ideal for all kinds of trips and activities including boating, camping, and sport trips. If you’re traveling abroad the travel first aid kit can also include supplies for dealing with sudden outbreaks of medical conditions you may experience or even sterile supplies if medical help is going to be hard to find.

The travel first aid kit should be carefully assembled to last your entire trip. Being prepared by carrying important first aid supplies can help insure you have a safe and worry-free trip.

-
Makeup is a common thing that people decide to wear according to their own preference and choice. Some may want to use a little of a lot, but one thing should be taken into consideration when wearing it. How it treats the skin. Some people can wear makeup without any kind of problem, yet there are others who have allergies with it. One of the reasons for this is the ingredients or chemicals that have been used in creating and blending the makeup. The skin can become irritated, red and itchy with some burning. There may also be some bumps, perhaps small blisters or hives that begin to surface on the skin where the makeup has been. If there is a sensitivity to makeup, maybe it would be a good idea to stay of way from makeup and use a sunscreen that has shades of color or try switching the brand. Sometimes, the brand can be the cause but not always. Trial and elimination is the best solution for this, so don’t get discouraged.

-
The main reason why a person gets a food born illness is often because he or she ingested a food that is contaminated by bacteria. Also termed food poisoning, food born illness can occur because of a number of different reasons. One of the more common reasons why the food a person eats can be a source of food born illness is because of unsanitary food preparation techniques or careless food handling. This is usually the fault of the person who prepares the food, whether it is a cook in a restaurant or yourself. The usual cause of a food born illness is food that is not cooked properly. Since a lot of bacteria die with the use of heat, the possibility of a person getting an illness from raw food or slightly uncooked food is quite high. The usual sources of bacteria that can cause food born illnesses such as salmonella poisoning are raw eggs, raw poultry or food products that are not cooked well enough to kill the bacteria that are present in the ingredients. Another possibility that may cause a food born illness is the unsanitary way that certain food is prepared and sold. This is often true in a lot of third world countries where very cheap food is prepared in unhygienic conditions. The usual food born illness that emerges from such a practice is typhoid, and this illness is often transmitted via food that is contaminated. The contamination can come from the cooking, like the use of dirty water in the creation of the food or drinks being served, or through the selling technique, like when the person serving the food is not wearing the proper food handling gear like sterile gloves. Typhoid can also be passed on when a person serving the food fails to wash his or her hands prior to preparing the food. These illnesses that are passed on with the food we eat can be taken care of with the use of antibiotics or with the simple passing of time. The usual symptoms of food poisoning or illnesses caused by infected food include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and subsequently, dehydration. Care should be taken when a person eats and prepares food since these food transmitted illnesses can be pretty painful and even fatal if left unchecked. If you are suffering from food born illness and the symptoms do not seem to be going away after a day or two, it is advisable that you see a doctor. With the proper medication, the illness will usually subside within a short time.

A laceration is the more medical term for any kind of tear or cut in the skin. The laceration may be small or large depending on the cause of the laceration, that is from a sharp object, such as a knife or shard of glass, or a more traumatic cause due to a blow to the skin, fall, or collision.

Most lacerations may not bleed that much, nor are deep enough to require medical attention. For such minor lacerations, one need to simply clean the wound using warm water with an antibacterial soap. Also recommended is the use of an antibiotic ointment or cream, such as Bacitracin or Neosporin to prevent any infection, and of which are readily available at any pharmacy. After applying the ointment one should cover the cut or laceration with a bandage or sterile gauze. It is important to change the bandage if the bandage becomes soiled, and one should re-clean the laceration and apply another application of the anti-bacterial ointment or cream. One should consult a physician however, if one notices any swelling or redness, for despite one’s precautions, this could be an indicator of infection, and may need additional medical treatment.

For lacerations where the cut is deep, that is, there is an obvious separation of the thickness of the skin, and if there is extensive bleeding involved, will necessitate immediate medical attention. If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches to close the wound properly of the skin and underlying tissue and to reduce the chances of infection. Also, in some cases, one may need a tetanus shot if one hasn’t had one for quite awhile.

It is most important to keep this deep laceration clean at all times. Even though one will have stitches, the wound should be covered with a bandage, and it is important to keep this bandage dry and clean at all times. If the bandage does manage to get soiled or wet, one must change it, by slowly unwrapping the bandage. If the bandage sticks to the wound or starts to hurt, use a little water to loosen it, then pat the area completely dry before
applying a new bandage. It is important to keep a bandage on for the entire duration of the healing process while stitches remain, and the physician may recommend one to gently clean and change the wound on a daily basis, depending on the severity of the laceration.

A physician may also prescribe a stronger antibacterial ointment than what is readily available over the counter. It is recommended to elevate such a deep laceration to decrease any pain, swelling or throbbing that may occur. To decrease any pain from the laceration, one may take either Tylenol or Ibuprofen, following the directions of these medications.

If one notices any unusual drainage, redness or swelling, or a bad smell coming from the laceration site, one should contact their doctor immediately as this may be a sign of infection.
After about seven to ten days, one should return to their physician for the possible removal of the stitches, or for general monitoring of the laceration. Once the stitches are removed and the skin is healed, to minimize any scarring as a result of the laceration, one can apply Vitamin E to the area and gently message the area.

-
Ways To Prevent Anaphylaxis When there is a known allergy, every precaution should be taken into consideration. Some allergies can be moderate but others can be dangerous. Anaphylaxis is not something to take lightly and needs continual monitoring. With an allergy this serious, being prepared is imperative and not optional. Once you have the understanding of why the attacks come in the first place, you will know what to do next. Take a prepared kit with the required medications and important contact information everywhere you go. This way if someone has to help in case of an attack, there will be all the information needed in one place. If the allergy is a food, do not touch or eat that food. Remember, all it takes is a small bit to affect the body. This is a great time to start checking out just what is being put into your body by looking at the foods closely with everything that goes into it. If the allergy is with bites like a spider, ant or a bee, cover yourself. You should always wear something that will help to repel the bugs. Follow the doctor’s advice and do as told. This may result in saving a life, yours.

When most people think of basic first aid, they think of bandages and ice packs. But once you’re in a first aid class, you’ll begin to see that there’s more to injuries than cuts and scrapes. In order to make the most of the time you spend in a basic first aid class, you will want to make sure to do the following.

Show up Early

If you arrive at a basic first aid class early, you will be able to meet with the instructor and develop a rapport. This will help you feel more comfortable in the class and help you be more likely to ask questions that might come up during the class. If the instructor is unavailable to talk, you might be able to look at the handouts for the class ahead of time to get an idea of what you might be covering.

Take Notes

Since much of the basic first aid information might be new to you, it will help you to write down everything you learn in addition to listening to the instructor. Combining these two learning techniques will solidify the information in your brain, while also helping you to organize the knowledge you are receiving. You will then be able to go back over your notes if you are unclear about something and refer to them when you need first aid advice.

Ask Questions

The key to learning basic first aid is taking the time to understand what you are learning and why you are learning it. If you don’t understand why you are doing something, make sure that you ask the instructor. This will help you learn quickly as well as retain that information. Instructors want you to ask questions and other students may have the very same questions that you do. Ask as many questions as you can until you are confident that you have learned the material.

Read the Book After Class

Most basic first aid classes will come with an instructional manual, so be sure to read it after the class ends. This will help you continue to learn the information as well as to learn any information that the class itself did not have the chance to cover. You will also want to reread this book every few months to make sure you remember everything.

Basic first aid classes are an opportunity for you to take care of yourself and of your loved ones. By treating these classes like any other important task, you can be the one that helps others when they really need help.

-
Though it’s true you might never need to use first aid CPR in your life, it can’t hurt to learn this life saving skill. While the process of CPR has changed over the years, it is still considered the first line of defense for those victims of heart attacks or other heart stopping illnesses. Here are just some of the reasons why you might want to take a first aid CPR class. You Can Help Others When you’ve taken a first aid CPR certification course, you will be able to help others who might have troubles. Since you’re trained, you will be covered for any liability should the patient still die while under your care. You will be able to step in to help someone else who might be doing CPR on someone and offer them a chance to rest if the emergency crews are going to take a long time to arrive. If you are uncomfortable with doing CPR on someone else, you might be able to advise someone else as well. You Can Protect the Victim’s Heart In the case of a heart attack, the heart muscle can stop beating because it has become too damaged. When this happens, blood doesn’t flow to the body, increasing the chance that other parts of the body will begin to die too – including the brain. When you use first aid CPR, you will help the body still pump blood, which can protect the brain and the body from further damage until the heart can start again on its own or with medical intervention. In fact, some studies are showing that just chest compressions are able to help preserve heart muscle and body function when done on a person whose heart has stopping beating. You Can Assess the Situation Some people who know a little about first aid CPR think that they should use it in all situations – but this is far from the truth. When you have been trained in CPR, you will understand how to assess a situation for its usefulness. You will learn how to properly check for breathing or for an airway instead of simply starting with CPR and potentially doing more harm than good. You will also learn the proper alignment for the victim so that you are protecting them from further harm. In learning first aid CPR, you will be able to help anyone whose heart has stopped, from infants to children, adults to the elderly. And because the techniques are different for everyone, you will want to make sure you are taking a class instead of simply learning from a book or online.
